"Innovation Series"

Pure artistry, pure athleticism,
pure enjoyment! Our Innovation Series brings repertory that is contemporary, classic and inspiring.
This series marks it's third year at Edison Theater but this March it returns as "Innovation Series" and it is by far the most favored series by our enthusiasts. The Company premieres George Balanchine's exciting
"Allegro Brilliante" for the first time in St. Louis, music by Tchaikovsky, along with a smash hit "More Morra" (2007) returning by popular demand to this series. Also, Michael Uthoff brings "in g major", a romantic pas de deux to Saint Louis Ballet. And finally the composer Joe Morra from Washington DC will write commissioned music for a World Premiere work choreographed by Gen Horiuchi -- this marks their fourth collaboration.

"Allegro Brillante"

Music: Piano Concerto No. 3, Op. 75 (1892)
by Peter Ilyitch Tschaikovsky
Allegro Brillante is characterized by what Maria Tallchief (the ballerina on whom the bravura leading role was created) calls "an expansive Russian romanticism." The music's vigorous pace makes the steps appear even more difficult, but the ballet relies on strong dancing, precise timing, and breadth of gesture. Balanchine said: "It contains everything I know about the classical ballet in 13 minutes." Tschaikovsky's Third Piano Concerto was originally written as a symphony. ~www.nycb.org

Michael Uthoff choreographed this romantic pas de deux for Ballet Arizona in 1996. He is restaging this beautiful ballet on Saint Louis Ballet to present it for the first time to St. Louis audiences.
