The dancers of Escapades are each so unique, but also very familiar to me after years of working together, so each role was shaped around them as individuals. I went into the choreographic process with less rigidity than I normally would, because, ironically, Covid opened up the rehearsal schedule and gave us more time to be creative. Sometimes I'd have an idea, but their initial attempts would produce something far more interesting, so I'd pivot and build on the new idea they presented. Other times, they'd instantly give me exactly what I envisioned, which made the process really enjoyable.
