Primary Division
Ages 6-8
The Primary Division at St. Louis Ballet School marks an exciting step for young dancers, following our PreBallet program. Designed for students ages 6 to 8, this division introduces more structure and focus while nurturing creativity, confidence, and a lifelong love of dance.
Level 1 begins the formal journey of classical ballet training. Dancers are introduced to the structure of a traditional ballet class and begin developing strength, coordination, flexibility, and foundational ballet vocabulary. Musicality and expressive movement are emphasized, helping students connect technical skill with artistry.
Level 2 builds on the strong foundation established in Level 1. Dancers refine their technique, deepen their understanding of ballet terminology, and improve their ability to retain and execute more complex movement sequences. With growing confidence and control, students continue to develop both discipline and joy in their dancing.
Ballet classes at this level are one hour in length. Students are also invited to broaden their experience with tap and jazz classes, each 45 minutes long. We recommend students take 1–2 ballet classes per week, and are encouraged to add tap and jazz as interest and readiness allow.
No audition or previous experience is required to join the Primary Division. Whether continuing from PreBallet or starting fresh, students will thrive in a welcoming, age-appropriate learning environment guided by experienced and supportive instructors.

Dress Code
Light Blue/Copen leotard, no attached skirts in tank, camisole or cap sleeved
Pink or skin toned tights. Suggested tights: BodyWrappers brand and Style #C45 in theatrical pink or Mariia Tights MTB15C in skin tone.
Ballet Shoes*: Leather or canvas split sole ballet shoes in pink or skin tone shade, fit properly at a dance store
Jazz 1/2 Shoes: Tan leather jazz shoes EX: So Danca JZ 76
Tap 1/2 Shoes: Tan with buckle Ex: Energetiks TSA01
Hair must be secured away from face, neat in a bun
*Ballet shoes must blend/match with skin-toned tights if choosing to wear skin-toned tights.

Monthly Installments are paid via our convenient auto pay system to pay off the 44 week program.

Tuition is non-refundable or non-transferrable. If you need to withdraw from your currently enrolled term, we requiire a 30 day notice; please email school@stlouisballet.org for assistance.

SCHOOL LEVEL OVERVIEW
Ages are approximate and placements are performed during trial lessons for new students.
Current students are evaluated yearly and level placements are distributed at the end of the school term in June.
Ballet 1
This beginner class level is for students aged 6-7 with no or some experience in ballet.
Prerequisite: None

Ballet 2
This beginner class level is for students aged 7-9 with one year of dance experience.
Prerequisite: Ballet 1

Ballet 3
This intermediate beginning level class is for dancers aged 8-11 with at least two years of ballet.
Prerequisite: Ballet 2
Classes to add at this level: Tap 3/4 (Prerequisite Tap 1/2), Jazz 3, Contemporary 3, Hip Hop 2-3
Ballet 4
This advanced beginning level class is for dancers aged 9-12 with at least three years of ballet.
Prerequisite: Ballet 3
Classes to add at this level: Tap 3/4 (Prerequisite Tap 1/2), Jazz 4, Contemporary 4, Hip Hop 3-5
Ballet 5
This intermediate level class is for dancers aged 11-13 with at least four years of ballet.
Prerequisite: Ballet 4
In this level Pointe work begins.

Ballet 6
This beginning advanced level class is for dancers aged 13-15 with at least six years of ballet.
Prerequisite: Ballet 5 and at least one year of Pointe

Ballet 7
This advanced level class is for dancers aged 14-18 with at least seven years of ballet.
Prerequisite: Ballet 6 and at least three years of Pointe

Ballet 8
This advanced level class is for dancers aged 15-18 with at least eight years of ballet.
Prerequisite: Ballet 7 and at least four years of Pointe
